Can you assign a custom sidebar to a category?

Hi,

I have a category in my menu the posts for which I do not wish to include in the sites Blog. Currently the actual category posts correctly show the custom right sidebar, but the parent category item in the menu does not.

I have tried downloading the Dynamic Widgets plugin, as suggested in a post related to another query some time ago, but unless I've missed something in the configuration it only seems to allow for configuring category pages. The custom right sidebar still does not show as required in the parent category.

Is it possible to get the custom right sidebar to show in the category included as a menu item?

How to Eliminate Extra Top Margin Space Above Thumbnails [NextGen Gallery]

I've been playing with the NextGen Gallery Stylesheet, but cannot eliminate the extra top margin space - that was not an issue with previous Striking theme versions.

For example, look at the right side column and the top margin spacing above the thumbnails.

Hi Kaptinlin

I have created a new Shortcode in the \striking\framework\shortcodes\dividers.php called "Gap"

I would like to have a transparent background in my content when I use the [gap] shortcode

The shortcode is working 100%, but I am coming up short with my CSS as it is being overwritten somehow.

Yet in my footer widget of recent posts the post published on 7th May is listed

Also on the home page when I click on latest news in one of the 3 content areas, it takes me here http://boabhealth.com.au/new-mobile-clinic/ which is the older post.

What have I done wrong? Appreciate your help.

I saw a similar post about this but would prefer not to load a beta update as the fix. Got a client who's of course not happy about the issue. Any idea when the standard version update will be usable in production sites?

Love your theme! It's so easy to use!

Got a question for you though.

I need to create a page with bunch of data - about thousand rows. With about 10 columns.

Then I need to make it filterable. This is where it starts to get tricky. I want the filtering to be like on zappos.com or amazon.com. For example on zappos, you can click 'Shop Men's', then click 'Shoes'. Now you can select 'size 12', brand - 'Adidas', color - 'black' - list of choices get AJAX filtered. Is this making sense? And that's what I need.

I get your theme can't do this and this is out of scope, but can you point me in the right direction how to get this done?

Sort Portfolio Items in a custom order

Hello!

I am trying to do something simple, but I can't figure out how to do it. Maybe, with all the complicated tasks on your plate, you want to take a break and take on something easy!

I have all of our products/services (which happen to be tours) entered as portfolio items. I have some portfolio pages that sort the tours randomly (or by page id or whatever). But, we want one portfolio page (the Schedule of Tours) where the tours are listed in chronological order (by departure date). Obviously, this does not correspond to any of the "sort by" options in the portfolio shortcode, but I was wondering how I could manually order them.

Any ideas?

How do I remove the grey gradient in my feature header?

Hi - First off, I'm not a developer, so go gently! I'm using Striking for my wedding photography website. It was installed for me but I've done a lot of playing since and I'm updating galleries at the moment.

Is it possible to remove or alter the grey lines with gradients that are currently above and below my feature header. I've just installed a masonry gallery on my homepage and the gradient appears above this, but not below it. On my other pages, it is above and below the title of the page.

No Feature Header on 404 & Search Results Page

Hi,

Sorry if I've missed the obvious again, but on testing the site I am in the process of building I discovered tonight that both the 404 and Search Results pages have no Feature Header when they are called.

In the case of the 404 error page I do get a list of pages, simply with the word Pages at the top, but there is no Feature Header with the expected Oops - Page Not Found title.

Is there a setting somewhere I need to activate or amend?

WordFence Shows Problem with a comment in the mediaelement.js file - Solution - Delete the url line

I am using WordFence for security on my Wordpress/Striking site. WordFence checks every file on the site and compares with the official versions of source files to detect modifications. Today I got this error along with several other related ones:

Bad URL: http://www.delphiki.com/html5/playr
File type: Not a core, theme or plugin file.
Issue first detected: 15 mins ago.
Severity: Critical
Status New

This file contains a suspected malware URL listed on Google's list of malware sites. Wordfence decodes base64 when scanning files so the URL may not be visible if you view this file. The URL is: http://www.delphiki.com/html5/playr - More info available at Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page.

I redownloaded Striking from my account in ThemeForest. Then I copied the entire mediaelement directory to overwrite the one on my website using ftp. I then cleared the cache since WordFence found the same error there. However, when I ran a WordFence scan again, it still shows the error. This was traced to a comment in the "mediaelement.js" file referring to that URL. This comment is also in the version from ThemeForest, so I assume there are no problems.

I assume that maybe the site above "www.delphiki.com/html5/playr" may have been compromised, but Striking is OK because it only refers to that site in the comments as the model for the code Striking is using. Please advise if this is something I should worry about. Thanks.

Is there a way to create a list of comments posted in various blogs? Maybe I don't understand the nomenclature, but this is what I'd like to do. On www.hoosierstar.com, in the gallery section, people can write comments.

How to show only some pics with color box

I describe here what I want:
I use 5 toggles in one page. Every toggle has some pics. Now I want to show with colorbox only the pictures that are set in each toggle by itself. If I click in each of the toggles, it should only show the pictures which are placed in this toggle
Means, In toggle 1 are 5 pics, and only these 5 pics are shown in the color box.
In toggle 2 are 8 pics, and only these 8 are shown in the colorbox if I click on one pic in this toggle and so on.

At this time, it shows ALL pics on the page, what I don't want.
May someone help me?

Define ‘custom templates’ per set of sub-pages

Hi all,

I’ve read some discussions on ‘custom templates’ and striking_R. But I’m not sure if that’s the solution to my question.

Situation:

- My client would like to have a landing-page to point out 4 topics.
- Each topic has it’s own set of posts and pages with more detailed information.
- Per topic I would like to set a different Custom Logo, Favicon, Navigation Menu, Feature Header Background Color and Footer.

So far I thought a MultiSite would be the best solution, but:

- Some of the same content applies to 2, 3 or all topics.
- In that case one content-source would be best and to use categories to select the pages the content applies to.
- Unfortunately this ‘one content-source & categories’ -solution doesn’t work in MultiSite (in MS they’re all separated sites)

So, is it possible in Striking:

- To define a custom template per topic?
- To set a Custom Logo, Favicon, Navigation Menu, Feature Header Background Color and Footer per template?
- To use categories to select 1 or more pages the same content applies to?

Or is there a better solution?

Because of the new EU Cookie law, I need to insert a if sentence to load or not a javascript:

Symplex Theme - Default Blog Post Image Errors

Hi-

I had this issue a while ago, and it went away with a previous release of Symplex, but is now back.

When using a default blog post image, if more than one blog post on a page uses the image, it usually does not load more than once or twice. The other posts that use that image just continue with a spinning "loading" wheel, but the image never loads.

I'm trying to make a left/right feature image on a single blog post without success.
No matter what parameters I define in Striking blog theme option, the image is stretched to full width.

Hi,

This isnt really a question based on the striking theme, i just dont know where else to get an answer, and you guys have been a great help over the years.

I am using the Royalslider plugin for my slideshows. When i insert the html into the page it looks like this [royalslider id="40"]. I would love to have a different slideshow play each time the page is loaded. At random. I want to select about 4 different options. Is there a way to do this. Every time i try a search on google it is coming up for a completely different topic.

Does Striking allow the Blog Post dates to be changed? Let me explain - simply I hope!

I am still building our site with Striking, and am doing it in a separate 'Test' location on our server. I have been in the process of adding the existing Blog Posts. The situation is this by way of example:

Original post date when added: May 2, 2013

Date created in Striking: June 10, 2013

I would like to be able for the post to show the original date, as some of the content is relevant to particular dates/periods.

I hope that there may be a way to do this.

Lightbox images in Gallery show up double when navigating

A have one question regarding the Lightbox gallery feature in the Striking Theme.
Every time i click an image on the page, the correct picture pops up but when i click on the right arrow the same picture show up... Am i doing something wrong here?

This is the first time i'm using a Lightbox gallery as i'm quite new to Wordpress, so if someone can explain it as simple as possible it would be of great help.

Hi,

I've just ran a scan with the WP "WordFence" plugin and it has come up with two suspected malware alerts that I thought you should be aware of. Could you please confirm whether this is something we should be concerned about (if so, what do we do?) or whether it is a false alarm?

The files are:
- wp-content/themes/striking/mediaelement/mediaelement-and-player.js
- wp-content/themes/striking/mediaelement/mediaelementplayer.js

Which apparently both link to the bad url:

Hi I thought this feature was automatic, ie. that the title of the page was automatically inserted lnto the page . Been awhile since I have edited this site. No problem if it isnt automatic, I will just add some h1 tags to the page.

Hi there, I'm a newbie to WP but gradually getting to know it better (Striking is such a fab theme). I know what I'm doing but I'm not a complete techie!

I've created a site and setup a custom menu under the Appearance section - dragging and moving pages around etc etc. Then assign said custom menu via the 'striking navigation' drop down.

But when I view the site this menu does not appear as it does under Appearance?

Just wondered am I forgetting to do something else? Is there an issue with the theme or WP.

Don't really know where to look/what to do and would appreciate some advice. Many thanks.

I noticed today that tabbed content is not showing up. It used to. Below is an example of how it is coded.
Using WP 3.5.1
Symplex 1.9.4

we turned off all plugins and no advanced settings has been set

Any idea how we get this to be hidden?
