Striking Theme re-load
  • Hi! Im currently using the Striking Theme on two different websites, one site that I created (and purchased the theme for) and another site that I "took over" for someone else, but they originally purchased the Striking theme. When I took over I was given the log-in's but not the theme (I liked it so much though I decided to use the same theme for my new site, so I purchased it). I notice the two sites Dashboards are different, I assume because it has not been updated, but Im not sure why Im not getting update notices? Seems like even though I don't HAVE this sites copy of the Theme, I should still get updates - shouldn't I? Another issue is that Im also, for some reason, not able to change any of the colors of the site in the color setting control panel - there are words there but no color options. Any idea what's going on with that?

  • Hi

What version of the theme are you running on that site? The auto update notice works as from version 5.1.x

    Best regards,

  • 2.2.3
So now what should I do?
    Thanks for your help!
  • Ok, my version is 2.2.3
Can anyone tell me how I can update?
    Thanks
  • Hi,

    1) download the latest theme from themeforest. unpack it. with that unpack folder unpack the striking.zip. Now you have a folder called striking with all subfolders. goto the cache folder and rename the skin.css to skin-def.css

    2) make a complete backup of your current website. Backup everything including the database. (all folders everything !!!). If you dont know how ask somebody who does. Do not start updating unless you have a full backup to back upon in case something goes wrong.

    3) start updating all plugins, the wordpress system and then update the theme by ftp by uploading the complete striking folder as unpacked from the striking.zip (see 1) overwriting the striking theme folder which you already have.

    4) In the admin part of your website goto the striking advanced settings.... turn off timthumb and turn on clear cache. Save the settings. The clear cache will turn off again at the save. This is normal.

    5) now visit your website.

    Best regards,

  • Ok, I finally got to this. I have updated to the latest WP version and have followed your steps best I could. When I got to the part about updating my theme via ftp, I could only upload a zipped folder, so I did and then extracted it. I checked the Skin.css file and it did show the renamed skin-def.css file, although the old file is still there so do I need to delet it? Now, Im stuck on the 4th step. Im going to my WP admin. area and I look under my striking advanced settings and there is nothing there about timthumb or clear cache. Im thinking maybe you mean under "appearances" then editor? If that is the case I still don't know how to turn things off and on. Please help. I still cannot see any colors in the Striking color picker and my theme still says version 2.2.3 Please help! Thanks!!!
  • Hi

I think you have gotten off track but I do give you thanks for trying. Please message me with your ftp and wp logins (and your skype id), and I will update you.

Its about 6pm for me and I am breaking for a couple of hours, but I will be working tonight, so I will check for your message when I come back.

    Best Regards

  • Sorry, I missed your message. It's about 9 am here now (FL). Im at my day job now, I can sneak in email and chat stuff but don't have skype here. Also, this website it for a client and Im not comfortable giving you all her log-ins - I really don't know who you are. Is there any other way we can work this out? I can be available tonight, from home, about 8:30 pm (I have skype there) - or same time tomorrow evening.
    Thanks very much!
