Great theme, so flexible and with so many really useful features. It's really making my website come more alive compared to the old (free) theme I was using!
But just one feature which does seem to be missing - a widget to display the most popular PAGES in the sidebar (i.e. as per the 'Striking - Popular Posts' widget, but for pages not posts).
I have tended to use pages on my blog for longer, more permanent articles (versus blog posts for more shorter articles) to allow me to set-up the navigation system I wanted. Therefore much of my most popular content is in the form of pages rather than posts. I would therefore like to be able to have a list of the current most popular pages in the sidebar.
I have found other plugin and widgets available which sort of allow me to do this, but the formatting is different from your other 'Striking' widgets so it doesn't look right (and I'm not competent with style sheets to start tweaking them to match).
So is a 'Striking - Popular Pages' widget something you could please include in the next update to this great theme?
This is a good idea, and in fact a new theme which I and Lin are working on as part of a team has some nifty draft code for this idea. We might be able to license that code at some point to put in our Striking theme, but I do not see it happening for some time.
Striking version 5.1.8 is almost set for release, with just some work still to be done on woocommerce conflicts mainly. It does not have this feature, although it has many additions to it.
After this release, Striking will be static in feature sets, with the next few updates only for maintaining wp compatibility.
So a good idea, but it will be some time before this idea hits Striking, if at all.
We are glad you like the theme otherwise. Striking is very robust, and I should add that there is no practical limit to the size of posts. I have seen (and designed) posts that are extremely lengthy, and displayed as "one post per page", and I suggest that you maybe reconsider your approach. If you do such, then you would be able to take advantage of all the nifty attributes we have built into the blog post shortcode, such as selecting by author, subject, etc.
I hear what you are saying with regards to long posts not being a problem, but my site is half blog, half technical so I prefer to use posts for the blog and pages for the technical articles. That seems to make more sense to me anyway!
Real shame that this isn't something that could be added to Striking; would be another cheery on the icing for me on a really great WP theme. I can't believe how much my site has improved (both visually and ease of navigation) since switching to Striking!
One other widget on my wish list would be a 'coming soon' page / post list that gives a list in the sidebar of pages/posts which are in draft or scheduled status. A sort of teaser for visitors to let them know new content is on the way and so to visit again soon. I've found a few plugins which sort of do this, but usually only for posts (not pages) and they tend to have their own styling which doesn't match the other Striking Widgets.
One plugin I would definitely recommend to other striking theme users is "Flexi Pages": http://srinig.com/wordpress/plugins/flexi-pages/ This is what I have used to manually create a 'most popular pages' list in my sidebar and the formatting matches the other Striking widget lists which is great.
Cheers, please reconsider adding the extra widget to the next update of Striking. Pretty please! :)
