Mobile Plugins
  • I'm looking at plugins that convert your page into a mobile version in real time.

Two obvious issues arise 1) Larger sites with many multi-level drop down menus are a mess. Especially when you're using the re-naming function in WP Menus. 2) Striking short code snippets appear because it's not traditional HTML code (I assume).

    * Is there anyway to hide the short-code snippets?
    * Is there a solution for larger sites with complex navigation?
    * Is there a preferred (working) solution for mobile site conversion scripts or plugins that anyone can recommend?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi fergweb,

There is no good solution for mobile plugin with striking. You can wait for my new themes that support responsive.

  • Hi KaptinLin,

Any rough ETA for your responsive theme?

  • Hi Shane

As it notes in the forum header, Lin and I are now working for a company (about 80% of our working week), and we form part of its development team. Its a completely discrete activity from Striking, which is our own baby. I know I wrote in another post about the timeframe being 45-60 days away for the new theme from them, but various events and business decisions intruded and right now, the ETA on the new product is still at least 2 months out. Its because the new theme is not only responsive, but is incorporating a number of premium plugins into the core code, plus is focusing on having unique css classes and using some cutting edge work in java classes, so that users run into less plugin conflicts.

Its very exciting. I can tell you there is no theme of which I know that holds a candle to what is being coded into the new theme in terms of functions and abilities.

The company will not be selling this theme via Themeforest. We will have a link to it via our Striking forum, plus they have their own marketing mechanisms. Pricing is also above the Themeforest matrix, but so is the feature set, so I don't see an issue there.

Purchasers will have options for hosting, guaranteed 24hr setup, various levels of website implementation, paid support, etc, so if one is a do it yourselfer, they can just buy and run, and pricing will range right up to accommodating those who want a complete website design package. I have been advised there are volume licensing agreements for designers, but I have not been told any more details yet. In fact that is probably a functions that I will most likely be handling according to what I have been told, since I have the most experience in this area of the company team.

They are supposed to be developing a "plugin" for Striking to allow it to be "responsive". In our mind this is somewhat problematic due to all the fixed layouts in Striking, and Lin and I were not willing to undertake this ourselves for this reason and the potential support issues resulting (its enough just to try to support Striking and upgrades). Its another legacy type issue. The framework for Striking was developed prior to the "responsive" advent, and enabling responsive and not running into legacy issues is a daunting task. I have consulted to the programmers working on the task a few times, but don't know what the current status is, other then the last time I sw them, their hair was getting grayer by the moment. A plugin to bring responsiveness to Striking may happen, or may not. I personally think the jury is still out on that.

Striking is not responsive, but it does work quite well in most mobile devices. I have looked at Striking on a number of mobile platforms such as pads, a few phones, and functionality seems reasonably good. Once we get past a few hurdles, I am thinking Lin and I may take a crack at improving even more its mobile characteristics. I know Lin test Striking in aniIpad all the time (I abhor apple products so I that is his baby) to test compatibility. But I also know that there is room for improvement.

Hope this answer gives you what you needed.

    Happy Striking
    Striking Team
