How does the 404 Error Page Work

I am a little confused as to why the '404 Error Page' is included in the Striking Example, when that is not the page that is actually shown

Can anyone explain how I can remove the Category Archives and Blog Posts from the 404 page?

the 404 default redirects to a page with the complete index of the website.

Paul - to make any changes to the 404 page you have the edit php code. I did this by creating a child theme and adding a 404.php with code that my client wanted. Hit me up on PM if you have specific questions and I can help you out. In my case I removed the search button from the page.
