Hi, I ma trying wp e-commerce with striking, but it seems to break the 'slide show', i.e. any selection on teh shop page (slideshow, default, custom etc) is ignored and just the page title shown.
Has anyone sucessfully integrated wp e-commerce? Or is there another e-commerce plugin that is recommended with Striking?
Been testing Cart66 with Striking - the light version. Been able to easily integrate it with Striking. No conflicts so far.
Been able to use the Ajax Portfolio sort for one type of multiple category page and have a buy button using Ajax to quickly add to the cart without a page refresh.
Minimal amount of hacking to the blog, portfolio short codes (a quick & dirty tip: copy the short code to your functions.php file and rename it make the mods and then use the renamed version of the short code on the page ... you'll have both)
So simple to setup and modify (almost all CSS) and Lin has so many areas to add the Cart66 short codes don't have to mod your templates if you don't want too - well almost.
Easy to setup different product page layouts to use as A/B testing with Google Website Testing in Analytics
Not sure the mySQL impact on a busy site - would not use it on a shared host thought or a large e-commerice site. Would go with something hosted as mySQL contention can be an issue
Just an FYI, when adding a product into Cart66, you will not add anything except for the product name, pricing, shipping and Item number and a few more things. No images, descriptions etc are in the product custom post type.
You just insert the short_code into the page, post or portfolio. That is where the image and description of the product is - you could use the Striking short_code for Tabs etc to spruce up your Product pages ....
Not wanting to put you off, but after trying out a whole bunch of wordpress e-commerce solutions there didn't seem to be anything that did the job all that well.
In the end I have decided to go down the route of using Shopify for the e-commerce part of the website. They seem to have a really good handle on what is important for shopping online.
My final website will be half Wordpress and half Shopify. Wordpress is very good at SEO for text, especially the blog. It is also good for image and social media integration. Shopify is good for selling products. Its SEO for products is first rate and it plays well with social media also.
Shopify have their own store/shop where you can upload themes. Some are free, most you need to pay for. I have found that if you have used Wordpress then you should be able to do about 90% of setting up. The other 10% is a case of looking into HTML or using a coder. I am working off the Expo theme. The apps in their store are really good. Half are free, half you pay for on a monthly basis.
There is a month free trial to see if it will work for what you need.
The order I am thinking of looks a bit like this -
Wordpress -
Homepage, News & Blog, Articles, Contact Page, Product/Service Information - eg Nikon D3x Service Social Media
Shopify -
All products & Services - eg Camera Cleaning Checkout Product/Service Information - eg Nikon D3x Service Social Media
You will notice that both the 'Product/Service Information & Social Media' pages are duplicated. The url will be different and will have different objectives.
The Wordpress product page - eg 'Data Recovery for Photographers' will have text information with the right keywords for Google to easily find and index. There will also be a link to the similar Shopify page so you can buy what you have searched for. The Shopify product page - eg 'Data Recovery for Photographers' will have also have text information but is more geared towards Amazon and Google market place.
This mongrel approach should give me the best of both worlds. The hard part 9or downside) is getting both sites to look the same and the extra work it involves.
Once things are a bit more finished I will put up the site so you can get a better idea.
I will have to ask Kaptinlin to take a look at this. It should work. Sorry for the disappointing experience. But i guess there will be a solution for it. If so. Share it here so the rest can benefit.
Excsue my ignorance is [raw] a built in shortcode of Striking? I didn't notice it in the documentation supplied, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place.
You need to ask your self how much sharing between your databases will be needed? I used Magento because I feel it has the best community, best features, and most customization.
What I did was theme my website around Striking first. Then, I themed my Magento site using Strikings Source.
