Homepage Widget Area Possible Bug?
  • Hi Kaptinlin

I bought Striking a few months ago and am very pleased with it. The only issue I've seen so far is with the Homepage Widget Area which what seems to me like a bit of a bug, and here are the symptoms I've seen:

    - Whatever widgets I place in the "Homepage Widget Area" show fine on the frontpage. The problem is that if I logout from the admin panel, then come back in, then the "Homepage Widget Area" shows nothing at all even though the actual homepage still shows those widgets I placed earlier. Now when I make ANY modification to other widget areas and save, then all widgets I had previously placed in the "Homepage Widget Area" disappear from the frontpage.

    - I've seen this behavior virtually since day one, and I just installed the July 1st version of Striking and am still seeing the issue.

The website in question is http://www.MamasLebaneseKitchen.com

Thanks in advance for your help

  • Hi Edgard,

Just login your backend. But i don't know what happens.

Can this caused by the plugins you used?

  • Thank you for checking this problem Kaptinlin. I honestly don't know what could be causing the issue, that is why I wanted your opinion on this. Is there a way to run a debug to see what is causing this problem?
  • Hi edgard,

Have you re-installed striking and wordpress then have a try?

  • This is not caused by striking.

I had this problem a month ago on a site. We spend days searching. Even restored many backups form months earlier to see if it was working then, because we knew it worked then. But something is wrong in the database.

It took some work but everything else besides a complete new install did not work. Backup and restoring the wordpress data did bring back the problem. Even on a clean WP with no plugins at all.

I had to remove completely the database and wordpress.

Reinstalled the whole thing and now it is ok.

But please save al your pages/post before erasing the website. Also save your images in your uploads folder. I did save my pages and post just in ascii/html code.

My idea (feeling is) That it is caused by wp 3.2.x when you toggle on of a widget area in striking which originally was filled with widgets. But i could not recreate this feeling. But i know for sure that my last change was in my website which crashed was the turning of form the header widget area into html area.

  • Thank you BackuPs.. I guess I'll have to live with the problem if the solution is that cumbersom.
