Weird Reference Error and missing authors?

Hi there

I was trying to see if I could somehow customize one of two shortcodes - either Blog to have a description/excerpt length define or the Recent Posts widget shortcode to have an author defined - but it proved to be without my reach (help here would also be appreciated!)

During my experiments, I suddenly found out that the Blog shortcode didn't populate its authors field; it's completely empty?

Trying to see if the page produced any errors (in the backend), I could see the following error in Chrome:

Uncaught ReferenceError: addLoadEvent is not defined [shortcode.php:102]

Could this error somehow be related to the lack of authors?

If it's any help, I'm using the WPML plugin, but I don't see how it should cause this problem?

CSS or Shortcodes?

I tried to research before I posted but I am learning from scratch here and am fairly lost.

I entered content...text and images to my homepage and I am finding that the formatting is not always true when I publish my site. In looking at my screenshot, do I need to learn CSS or can I accomplish my formatting with shortcodes? I'll go do the work but just need to be pointed in the right direction. I just want to add some style, maybe wrap some of the text around the images...etc. Thanks,

Hi!

New to Striker, Wordpress and Photoshop...oh boy! The post looks long but I just have a few yes/no questions below. I would like to start a project that will be time consuming (for me) and wanted to check in here first. I'm not asking for detail on how to do any of the below. I know enough to be dangerous :)

1) I would like to create a 960x440 jpeg in photoshop using different icons, backgrounds, and even my own handwriting. I assume if I do this and watch my overall file size, that I can upload into my theme? yes/no?

2) (not Striking question) - I can do this all at 72 dpi? Should I do at 100 dpi to be safe because the size is 960x440??

3) I have 5 panels that I would like to create. Goal is to keep simple/clean/light because my average customer has an older computer. I see only 4 panels in example. Can I create 5? Is Anything Goes slider with minimal enhancements the best option?

Thanks in advance. I'm hitting some speed-bumps because I am new but I am very impressed with ease of use so far!

Nivo shortcode bug

Nivo shortcode does not display navigation arrows as it does on the example page, only the small circles in the caption box appear.

Also, the image/caption box does not link to the appropriate page that is associated with each post in the slider, and there is not opacity option in the shortcode generator.

Anything Slider Won't Autoplay..Still.

I have searched through this forum and found several folks with this problem, but have seen no resolution to it. I downloaded Striking from themeforest just last week, so it does appear to be the newest. Are some folks actually getting the autoplay to work with the anything slider? I can't figure out what would make anyone's installation different from mine; I know I'd REALLY appreciate some help with this, it's a key element for my client. my site is http://linkvisum.com/new. Homepage Widget Area Possible Bug?

Hi Kaptinlin

I bought Striking a few months ago and am very pleased with it. The only issue I've seen so far is with the Homepage Widget Area which what seems to me like a bit of a bug, and here are the symptoms I've seen:

- Whatever widgets I place in the "Homepage Widget Area" show fine on the frontpage. The problem is that if I logout from the admin panel, then come back in, then the "Homepage Widget Area" shows nothing at all even though the actual homepage still shows those widgets I placed earlier. Now when I make ANY modification to other widget areas and save, then all widgets I had previously placed in the "Homepage Widget Area" disappear from the frontpage.

- I've seen this behavior virtually since day one, and I just installed the July 1st version of Striking and am still seeing the issue.

Shortcodes Do Not Work in Blog Index Page

One of the useful shortcodes that I like to use when I create a blog post is the dropcap. I generally have a drop cap at the first character of the first word in every blog post.

The problem is that when you use the dropcap short code it does not show up in the Blog index page when the "display full blog post" is turned OFF.

I noticed the same problem with other shortcodes -- they too do not work in blog posts displayed on the Blog index page.

CLOSED - Several Google Map in different post

Hi everyone,

It put a GoogleMap shortcode in a post and everything was fine. GoogleMap is activated in 'general striking option'.
But when I put a second GMap shortcode (with different address) in an other post, it doesn't load the map. The zone is here with all google button, at the right size, but nothing is loaded. The map is totally grey and I can't interract with it.

I'm using Striking 3.0.6.1 on Wordpress 3.2.1. The problem appears in both firefox3.6+ and IE8+ (not tested on Chrome)

Is there a fix to show several Gmap (each one loaded in a different post) ?

Issue with homepage slideshow - two-page setup with different languages (WPML)

Hi KaptinLin,

I created a homepage slideshow using two pages, one in English and one in Spanish using WPML. In each page I set up the same slideshow with three slides (same category).

At the moment, the setup works for both languages only when I select the "3D Flash Image Rotator".

For the others ("Nivo Slider", "Accordion Slider" and "Anything Slider") it works for the page in English but not for the page in Spanish. The errors (in Spanish page) are different in each case:

Nivo - does not display the images (empty frame);
According - does not display the images and the whole frame is out of place;
Anything slider - does not display the images and looks it is loading forever.

I went through related support posts and I already upgraded timthumb to the latest version and applied some other files you recently provided (themegenerator.php, piecemaker, etc.).

I will send you the link and admin access via email since it might be easier to see it directly by changing the slideshow type.

I will appreciate your help with this.

Header tags

The header tags (H1, H2 etc) are not conforming to the text color i'm choosing. Im picking a dark black #000000, yet its turning out a very light black. whats going on? I tried choosing through the visual panel selecting manually too and bolding but none of it is working.

Striking Search widget - title "Search" automatically added after changes to other widgets

I currently use the striking search widget with an empty title on page and blog widget areas. Every time I make a change in the header or home page widget areas (e.g. remove or add a widget) the title "Search" is automatically added to the striking Search widget.

While it is not a critical issue it requires to always remember to clean the search title after making changes to other widgets.

I use Striking 3.0.6, WP 3.2.0 and WPML 2.3.3

Navigation Hover - Menu text dissapears

When navigation from left to right or sometimes right to left, in Firefox 4 or Firefox 5 my text on the menu using the buttons makes the text disappear, I thought updating to the latest striking theme and word press update may solve this but it didn't.

CLOSED-Portfolio Issue: Footer Abnormal and Portfolio Items not Showing

I am very new to this, so don't have any coding experience and limited Html understanding (about a week's worth), but began setting up my first portfolio. It has 6 categories and 7 portfolio items. The problem is that after the 5th one was showing correctly, the rest don't and my footer is now abnormal (wrong color and missing the Striking Twitter feed altogether), but the rest of the pages are fine. They all are categorized correctly, but when I hit on one particular category the page also jumps up to the top, while with the rest, they flow nicely as they should. Attached a screenshot. Oh and the button doesn's show up for the "Bravofly" option on that page even though it's activated on the portfolio item page.

I have very simple plugins: ShareThis, Socialable, Page Links To, WP EJunkie, Facebook Comments for Wordpress, and The Events Calendar (the only one on this page which is showing is ShareThis, but in the header only).

Can't understand why it worked fine yesterday and not today? Help! you can check online at www.travelforrookies.com under the "Rookie Picks page."

Bug by striking or by Wordpress? Custom Sidebar content gone when turning /on/off footer widget area

Hello KaptinLin,

I have the subfooter widget area type set to widget area. When set to widget area i get a new sidebar in the page where one can fill the sidebar with widgets "called sub footer widget area". Lets call that page where one can fill all the sidebars with widgets: "the widget fill page" of the theme

I also have a custom sidebar called contactpagesidebar.

Now in "the widget fill page" the contactpagesidebar is below the "sub footer widget area". It has widgets in it.

Now I goto the footer settings and turn the Sub Footer Widget Area Type to HTML. I loose the "sub footer widget area" in "the widgets fill page" (which is logical) and the contactpagesidebar goes up one level.

However now it already has happened. The former content of the sub footer widget area is now in the contactpagesidebar and the original content of the contactpagesidebar (all the widgets) are gone.

Setting the Sub Footer Widget Area Type back to widget area does not bring back the original content of the contactpagesidebar. They are gone for good !!!

Where is this bug coming from? Wordpress or striking?

This happened now twice before i could pinpoint what was causing it but i can tell you it is very annoying.

In reverse. If you do not have the footer widget area on and you have created a own sidebar then the content (the widgets) of the sidebars below the "called sub footer widget area" start shifting one sidebar up when the subfooter widget area is turned on. This cannot be happening.....it is a bug.

If you do not have any own sidebars created there is no problem..... But if you do and i have many of them all the content changes from sidebar to sidebar and the last one looses all the content

Steps
0) Be sure the subfooter widget area type is set to html
1) Create a custom Sidebar. Make sure you have only one custom sidebar !!! (just to keep it simple).
2) Fill this custom sidebar with widgets
3) Now Set the subfooter widget area type set to widget area
4) Now check the content of your Custom side bar. The widgets are now in the subfooter widget area
5) Move the widgets from the subfooter widget area to custom sidebar to get it right again.
6) Now Set the subfooter widget area type set to html area again.
7) Now check your custom sidebar...... everything is gone. all widgets are lost.

But a number of people in my forum have told me that they have to scroll to the right to see all or the site.

To me it shows up fine in all browsers and on a pc and mac

But has anyone else had this problem?

Strange bugs have began occurring since I upgraded to Wordpress 3.2. So I tried updating the Striking theme (hadn't updated since I first bought it from themeforest several months ago) to fix it... and it's still broken.

Check my site out for yourself:

-no slider functionality (items not appearing at all and background is wrong color, even though admin side says it is the correct one)
-accordion style dividers on resumé page do not function at all
-no hover over icons for image/video/unity links on any pages
-no lightbox style pop-ins for images, just straight new page links to images and videos
-Thumbnail for my "Daniel Craig Portrait" isn't showing up at all

Don't know if this helps any, but I used Filezilla to overwrite the striking folder in the themes folder and all the items in it. I tried viewing the site in the latest version of Firefox and Safari, both regular and mobile. Nothing is functioning correctly.

Please help me! My site looks amazing using your theme and I'd like to continue using it! :-((

Bug Sitemap Categories list shows extra empty line

I have a extra empty line between the first categorie and the second categorie which belongs to the group of the first categorie.

Where is this extra line coming from? There is no empty category added or part of the category "gebroken".

strike through text - "del" tag not working in styled table

Hello,

I tried to install the Striking 3.0.6.1 Theme using the Upload file dialog from the Theme menu and yes I did used the striking.zip from within the zipfile that I downloaded from themeforest.
As this was not working, I got an "Internal Server Error" and the info that I should contact my provider, I expanded the "striking.zip" file and FTPed the files and folders into the wp-content/themes/striking folder of my site.
The Theme now showed up under the wp-admin control panel but when I activated it I could no longer access the site.
I did a fresh install of wordpress after removing the DB and the Folders from the webspace.
Upload of the striking.zip with the Admin Panel did not work even with a fresh install.
I uploaded the files via FTP again.
If I do a "Preview" of the Theme I get this error (see below), can anybody advise as to what might be the problem?

I retraced the instructions from the manual.
Upload via the wp-admin panel is still not possible so I FTPed again.
I than changed the permission on the cache folder as per instruction in the Manual.
In a local test install of the Theme I had the permissions issue mentioned during the activation, so I tried it on the hosted site.
I tested the preview of the Theme and the Error had disappeared.
I than activated the Theme and it worked.

Well that allowed me to continue... so please close this Post

thanks for the amazing theme. Everything works except for google maps shortcode. it does not get converted to actual code.
e.g: shortcode-editor generates sth like [gmap latitude="47.660937" longitude="9.569803"] and it renders as plain text.
btw: Is it V3 API or V2 with a API key? is that the problem?

v3.0.6 issue with slideshow

Updated my theme to 3.0.6 from 3.0.5. None of the slideshow categories were being registered - I designate specific slideshow categories on each page to show only a particular group of photos, but now ALL slideshow photos appear. I couldn't locate the issue and reverted back to 3.0.5, and it works again. So, I'll need to verify this bug is fixed before upgrading again.

Pagination Issues In 3.1.4

As per a previous post, the problem returns in Striking 3.1.4. It appeared at first that there were two settings that prevented readers from seeing the next 5 posts when clicking page 2 on my blog. After checking my admin panel I noticed that Striking > Blog > Single Blog > Previous & Next Navigation was set to OFF. I changed it to ON and saved. I then went to Settings > Reading and found that 'A static page' was the same for Front page and Post pages. I corrected this and set my Front page to my My Blog Page and Posts page to -select- then saved. Now as long as I am logged into the WP admin panel I can go from page 1 of page 2 as it should. However, after logging out of my WP admin panel the problem persists.

Bug? Cufon replace

Hello KaptinLin,

I found a bug i guess. I added the following code:


Cufon.replace("h1,h2,h3,h4,h5", {fontFamily : "verdana"});

Now when i open a page the menu is first completely in Verdana. However when you hover the menu items they switch to my cufon font ans stay that way until the page is loaded again. Then the whole thing repeats itself.

Please look into this

AdSense code is not aligned

Hi,
In many of my articles I have an image with a block of AdSense ads. I use the plugin "Adsense-Deluxe" to simplify the task, but since I migrated to Striking, the ad goes to the next line of the paragraph.

Post Comment Button not working

I am not sure how it happened, but the post comment feature underneath my blog posts seems to be broken or something.

The name, email, website, and text fields all appear and you can write in them. But once you press the "Post Comment" button it does not post the comment.

Instead in just takes you straight up to the top of the page again. In internet explorer, it gives a text on the bottom left saying 'Error on page."

In firefox, it just takes you to the top of the page but does not post the comment.

If I am logged in as admin, it allows you to post the comments. But the other people cannot.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Portfolio problem

Hey there,

since a few days we've Problem using Portfolios inside Posts AND Pages. By including a portfolio via [portfolio...] in a post or page, and SAVE it, the page reloaded only consists out of a portfolio, the post or page is gone. This appears to be a backend Problem since the page or post in frontpage is still like before.

But you have chance to edit the post/page by navigatting to posts/pages->edit post/page because not the page/post ist loaded but the postfolio instead. Very ugly Problem. Hope you can help us, updating the Theme didn't resolve it.

PS: It seems the problem appears when ever you "include" anything with [ ] or the Shortcut generator. You do so, the page get's reloaded (after saving) as a portfolio (mostly a randomly choosed)

white gradient missing from feature area

I'm not sure when this happened? However you will notice that in the footer, the color is washed out in the middle by a circular gradient. That is now missing from the feature area? There is nothing marking it out in the general CSS area.

This is not issue with the latest (3.0.5) release, those existed in previous versions as well.

First, if I add tag for excerpt, it works fine in Blog page, i.e. it cuts the text at the place I specify. But I added blog posts via short-code generator on my home page and it ignores this tag and cuts the text after the default number of chars as if there was no tag at all.

Secondly, RSS2 feed should NOT show class="image_shadow", in the feed it display two images (main and shadow), side by side..

In addition, I have two request. One is related to the first issue above. I like that text is automatically trimmed if "Show full" is not selected, however could you add a check if exists and if it does cut it on that place, not on the default place. Sometimes I need some more text to be displayed in excerpt and this automatic trimming does not allow me to display it..

And the main feature which would be really useful if you could add ability to add custom code for feature header section. Currently it is just custom title and description or a slider, but I would like to add some other things before the main content.. short-codes should also be supported.

Button aligned right HR line after button is positioned the wrong way

Now look where the horizontal line is displayed. It is not beneath the button but in the middle of it.

Bug? Tabs containing Youtube Video. Video is place outside tab at publishing of the page

Hello KaptinLin

I have a weird problem since version 3.05 and wp 3.1.3

If i put tabs in a page and put a youtube video in a tab all by using the shortcodes generator the video is shown outside the tab when publishing the page.

When i look at the sourcecode of the page it is also placed outside the tab. How can i fix this? It used to work in the old version.

ps i have setup a clean install in a spoof with just the striking theme to test it. And this is what i get

Tabs issue - messed up in some browsers

Hi Kaptinlin, great theme - love it. Using 3.04 version as 3.05 had some troubles with home page slider disappearing after upgrade.

Somehow tabs are messed up on some browsers. Here`s example: http://apple.silverbulletwebsolutions.com/general-english-course-level1-beginner/

On Firefox - fine; Opera - messed up; Chrome - quite fine, just two lines added on top...; Internet Explorer - totally messed up... what did I do wrong?

Menu colors change after hover and do not return to original color.

please look at the image these are my color settings.

Now make a main menu with two items one of theme with just one submenu item.

I have Home and About and the about has a submenu called contact.

When i load the page the about text color first is white. After hovering the about and leaving the about by moving the mouse to the right the color changes to black. Hover again and leaving sometimes it changes back to the white again and then to black.... In firefox.

In Ie8 On page load the about is white. Just one hover and it is black. The white is not restored. So In IE8 it remains black.

Could you please look into this.

Bug in Layouts Image not positioned right when one layout part is empty

Hello kaptinLin,

I have the following problem.

I need a logo positioned at second half of the page. So i use layouts. However the first half does not contain any tekst or other code. The second half contains only the logo. However if the first half does not contain a white space the logo is stuck to the left-side (left-margin) of the page. So i fill the first half with a whitespace. However my users do not know html code they just write tekst and want to position textblocks.

Could you please look into this and fix it so that even even if a layout part is empty a image is placed correctly in the next layout part.

The problem also occurs with the 4/5 1/5, 1/4 half 1/4 layouts when one part does not contain any text or code.

Nav text colors (current/active) not working properly

My temporary site is http://www.cfnil.tycomix.net. I just upgraded to Striking 3.0.5 and WP 3.1.3 and that's when the following Nav text color problem started:

* When i hover over the main navigation in FF4 the dark (active) color sticks.
* When I'm in IE9 the main nav text colors works the first time, but then stays white.
* The nav text should be white, and then when hovered over turn dark grey with a light grey background.
* The dropdown text colors work find and never stick.
* When I refresh the page in both FF and IE the nav colors work fine THE FIRST TIME but then stick again as described above.

Weird. Any fix suggestions? I saw this issue referred to in an old post but it was amidst other issues and it never got an answer)

Contact Form doesnt work

I am having issues with using the Contact Form. Before adding the suggested plugs in Configure SMTP and WP Mail SMTP, i tried to send an email but it never reached my inbox. So i searched this forum for answers. I tried Configure SMTP first but I got an error when I tried to send a test message..
Below is the error i get with Configure SMTP

SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

Failed to connect to server
Connection timed out

With WP Mail SMTP, i get something like this
